The opportunity

We’re seeking a driven Geological Technician to support our Geotechnical and Hydrogeology team on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth to our site at Cape Preston.

As a Geological Technician you will perform geological, hydrogeological & geotechnical duties to an excellent standard, taking ownership of the quality of data collected in the field.

You will assist the Hydrogeologist and Geotechnical engineer with groundwater and surface water sample collection, hydro and geotechnical data collection and system monitoring, so that internal and regulatory groundwater obligations are met. Undertake practical tasks involved in servicing the hydrological and geotechnical aspects of mining operations.

In this role you’ll be responsible for:

  • Collection of all geoscientific data to an excellent standard, e.g. ground water, surface water and geotechnical data collection and compilation.
  • Supervision of field works for groundwater investigation programs, including but not limited to groundwater supply, mine dewatering, mine depressurisation, and groundwater quality assessments as well as geotechnical engineering work.
  • Preparation of hydrology samples for analysis as well as undertaking in pit water seepage and tailings dam storage facility seepage inspections
  • Collate and validate hydrology & groundwater data for regulatory reporting
  • Installation and retrieval of blast monitors and assist in management of geotechnical slope stability monitoring equipment (prisms and radars)
  • Assist with the management and supervision of contractors/consultants

 

To be successful in the role you must have the following skills & experience:

  • 1+ years mining experience in a Geological Technician / Field Assistant capacity (preferably more than 1 year)
  • General enthusiasm and positive attitude to learn all aspects, functions and processes of sampling theory, QA/QC and mining software
  • Understanding the impacts poor geoscientific data can have on an operation.
  • Practical experience to enable accurate and efficient mining technical data collection.
  • Good attention to data detail and accuracy.
  • Being organized, logical and with excellent time management skills is essential
  • A current WA Manual Drivers licence is an essential requirement
