Sino Iron is a fully integrated operation – featuring a mine serviced by the biggest haul trucks in the world, a six-line concentrator and port terminal facilities at nearby Cape Preston. Our state-of-the-art power station and desalination plant are among the largest in the State.

The Opportunity

CITIC Pacific Mining requires a keen and motivated Mining Engineer to join our Technical Services team on site at Cape Preston. This 18 month max term position is offered on a 9/5 roster, FIFO from Perth to site. The Purpose of the Role

The Mining Engineer will report to the Superintendent – Projects and will be involved in a wide range of mine site activities. You will have a clear understanding of objective and challenges by participating in daily and weekly mine production meetings. Working closely with out mining team and the long term planner to supply data required for LOM study for our onsite consultant.  Translating technical reports from Chinese to English and also English to Chinese.  Involved in report and presentation writing as required for project deliverables and assisting in the preparation of our annual planning cycle.


To secure one of these roles you will have:

  • Completed a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent
  • Understanding of Drill and Blast concepts and exposure to open pit scheduling
  • Proficiency in reading and writing in English and Chinese
  • Previous experience / exposure to Vulcan, OPMS, XACT or an equivalent software packages is preferable
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience using MineStar, Excel and Power BI would be advantageous
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Self-motivation, a passion for mining, enthusiasm to learn and develop personally and professionally
