This is a site based position FIFO from Perth on a 2 weeks on/1 week off roster.
CITIC Pacific Mining is committed to developing our own highly skilled men or women tradespersons by providing you with a comprehensive practical and theoretical training base.
The apprenticeship will be a 4-year term
Reporting to the Co-ordinator – HV, you will gain hands-on experience across all aspects of high voltage maintenance and operations while working alongside experienced High Voltage Electricians and Supervisors. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will be exposed to:
- Maintenance, inspection and testing of high and medium voltage switchgear (up to 220 kV)
- Installation, maintenance, and fault finding of high and medium voltage cable systems
- Maintenance and testing of power and distribution transformers
- Operation and maintenance of Power Factor Correction (PFC) equipment
- High voltage substations and associated electrical infrastructure
- High voltage switching, isolation and permit systems under supervision
- Protection and control systems, including relays and associated equipment
- Preventative and corrective maintenance on the site's distribution and transmission network
- Use of specialised high voltage test equipment and diagnostic instruments.
The role provides exposure to a diverse range of equipment supporting the 220 kV transmission network, 33 kV, 11KV and 6.6 kV distribution systems, diesel power generation, substations, solar generation, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and large mining process infrastructure.
To be eligible to be considered as a potential candidate, you will:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Transfer apprentices are encouraged to apply
- Completed secondary schooling to year 12 or equivalent
- Preferably have completed a pre-apprenticeship course relative to the trade you are applying
- Ability to adapt to working 12 hours shift on a FIFO roster
- Ability to adapt to the environment of the Pilbara weather
- Must hold a current WA ‘C’ class driver’s licence
- Must hold a white card

This is a unique and rear opportunity to work in a specialised team responsible for maintaining the site’s high voltage distribution and transmission network. As part of the High Voltage Team, you will develop specialist skills and gain hand-on experience maintaining a wide range of high voltage electrical infrastructure, including which is a
- High and medium voltage switchgear
- Transformers
- Power Factor Correction equipment (PFC)
- High and medium voltage cables
- Overhead line
- Protection and control systems
- HV substation and associated equipment
- Electrical testing and commissioning
- Safe high voltage switching and isolation procedures.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you will work alongside experienced High Voltage Electricians and Supervisors, gaining practical experience in fault finding, preventative maintenance, commissioning, and network operation while working towards a nationally recognised qualification.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, teamwork and learning.
- Have good communication skills and a positive attitude toward developing a career in the high voltage industry.
