We are seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our Mine Technical Services team on a permanent 8/6 roster, FIFO from Perth to Cape Preston.

This role plays a key role in maintaining the safety, stability, and performance of our open pit mining operations by providing specialist geotechnical expertise across the mine.

You will be responsible for administering and continually improving CITIC Pacific Mining's Geotechnical Management System while providing timely technical support across the business. Working closely with Mine Technical Services and Operations, you will ensure geotechnical risks are effectively identified, managed, and monitored in accordance with Australian mining industry standards and legislative requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular pit wall and berm inspections, providing accurate reporting and recommendations
  • Monitor and assess geotechnical hazards, including rock deformation, stress, seismicity and slope stability
  • Complete geotechnical pit mapping and field investigations
  • Collect, validate and interpret geotechnical data, including diamond core logging, sample collection and testing
  • Maintain a high standard of data validation and QA/QC with strong attention to detail
  • Undertake wall depressurisation investigations and provide recommendations for slope stability improvements
  • Design and assess wall support and reinforcement systems
  • Provide geotechnical input into blast designs to optimise stable pit slopes
  • Review slope performance, analysing rock mechanics and reconciling pit design with operational outcomes
  • Assist in developing work scopes for geotechnical investigations and deliver projects safely, on time and within budget
  • Manage and supervise specialist contractors undertaking geotechnical works
  • Ensure compliance with relevant mining legislation, statutory requirements and health and safety standards

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering Geology, Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering
  • Strong understanding of rock slope engineering within the Western Australian mining industry
  • Experience undertaking geotechnical analysis using Rock Mass Classification systems, stereonets, failure mode analysis and numerical modelling
  • Proficiency using Vulcan Mining Software and familiarity with geotechnical software such as Swedge, Dips, Slide, Rockfall or similar
  • Experience with geotechnical mapping, diamond core logging and geological data interpretation
  • Knowledge of Adam 3D photography, I-Site laser scanning and Acquire database software is desirable
  • Experience preparing slope designs and supporting open pit mining operations
  • Current C Class Manual Western Australian driver's licence
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Engineering Geology, Mining Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering will be highly regarded
