CPM is the company behind Sino Iron, already Australia’s largest magnetite operation, located on Western Australia’s Pilbara coast, south of Karratha.

The opportunity

We’re seeking a driven Leading Hand to support our Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) team.  This is a permanent full-time role on a 2/1 FIFO roster, continuous shift which is FIFO from Perth to site.

Reporting to the Supervisor – Load and Drill, this role will assist in the safe, efficient, day-to-day activities in the HME workshop.  Assisting the Supervisor with machine and crew coordination, to ensure daily planned production targets are achieved.  From time to time you will also act as a Supervisor, when they are on leave.

In this role you’ll be responsible for:

Key Outcomes

  • Safety performance as measured by safety incidents and lead indicators, such as inspections and Safe Work Observations
  • Maintain legible, coherent and accurate service records and documentation relating to parts, work in progress, backlog and maintenance records
  • Be familiar with and demonstrate personal and subordinate staff compliance with CPM’s safety, quality, environmental and fitness for work policies and procedures
  • Initiate actions to prevent the occurrence of machinery/ equipment non-conformance, identify and record any machinery/equipment quality problems.  Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels. Verify the implementation of solutions, control further non-conforming machinery/equipment, until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.  Identify and report any occupational health and safety, environmental or quality Issues
  • Control the service times of jobs
  • Environmental and Aboriginal Heritage compliance to plans and procedures.

Operational Outcomes

  • Assist in the formulation and review of job hazard analysis (JHAs) as per CPM’s procedures
  • Liaise with operations supervisors and other crew/departmental leading hands
  • Provide assistance to the supervisor or planner on job estimations and work orders
  • Provide instruction, assistance and direction to all service persons, apprentices and trainees in the performance of their duties
  • Provide “on the job” training and supervision to apprentices and tradespersons as required
  • Work a reasonable amount of overtime
  • Demonstrate the use of all CPM Mining maintenance systems and documentation
  • Be responsible for workshop tooling used by the service persons advising the workshop supervisor of any workshop tooling that is unsafe
  • Ensure the workshop tooling is returned to the tool storage in a clean, safe and usable condition
  • Demonstrate the initiative and aptitude to undertake company training and obtain the highest personal achievement practical
  • Ensure that all service persons are neat and tidy in appearance and adopt work practices that are safe and will provide a clean and tidy workplace at all time
  • Participate in safety incident reports and investigations where required
  • Participate in performance monitoring and reviews
  • Participate in safety and communication meetings (eg. daily pre-shift and weekly toolbox meetings)
  • Report all accidents/incidents and hazards to supervisor immediately, do not disturb or modify the scene until approved to do so by the registered manager
  • Follow instructions given by the supervisor
  • Ensure good housekeeping standards are maintained at all times
  • Ensure correct PPE is worn at all times
  • Display professional conduct at all times whilst working for or representing the company
  • Monitor Oil SOS results and educate tradesmen on analysis
  • Monitor and update service boards and plans daily.  Liaise with maintenance supervisor on a daily basis to unsure correct servicing occurs.

Safety

  • Ensuring all activities undertaken by employees and subcontractors are carried out in accordance with CPM’s policies and procedures
  • Complete work place inspections and Safe Work Observations daily
  • WA Mines Safety and Inspections Act and Regulations are to be adhered to and specifically demonstrate duty of care compliance at all times
  • Complete hazard report forms for any hazards identified
  • Actively promote safe work practices
  • Adhere to the Safety Management Plan.

Environment and Community

  • Actively promote environmentally responsible work practices
  • Adhere to the Cultural Heritage Procedure
  • Ensure all activities and those of employees and sub-contractors are carried out in accordance with the CPM Environmental Management Policy.

To be successful in the role you must have the following:

  • Trade Qualified with Caterpillar (O&K) experience on Load equipment and Drills
  • First Aid certificate
  • Class ‘HR’ motor vehicle licence or equivalent
  • Supervisory experience
  • Communication skills
  • Computing skills

Desirable:

  • Work Safe qualified EWP, LF, CN and Safe working at heights
  • Maintenance systems SAP experience
  •  Supervision Qualification
