The opportunity
CPM is seeking an experienced Contracts Specialist to join our Perth-based Contracts team. This position is offered on a 12 Month Maximum term basis working Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays recognised in Western Australia). Although this search is primarily for an experienced Contracts Specialist, we are open to negotiating a Senior Contracts Specialist role with applicants who can satisfactorily demonstrate requisite experience and qualification befitting such a role.
The Purpose of the Role
Reporting to the Lead Contracts Specialist, you will manage key commercial and contracting activities within an assigned portfolio. You’ll help develop robust “go to market” strategies and tender methodologies, and support the implementation of procurement and contracting strategies to ensure timely delivery of goods, services and works that meet the company’s maintenance, production and capital project requirements.
The Requirements
We seek applications from qualified and experienced professionals with demonstrated capability in:
- Contracts management or equivalent experience, ideally within the resources sector;
- Development, sourcing and management of:
– Mining and/or heavy mobile equipment contracts (services, goods, equipment, facilities); and/or
– Large-scale labour hire contracts;
- Sourcing strategies, tendering (clarifications, negotiations, evaluation), drafting contractual clauses and commercial documentation, and managing post-award obligations;
- Contract negotiations, cost savings, dispute resolution and stakeholder management;
- Achieving best value and commercial outcomes across the contract lifecycle;
- Sound understanding of contract law principles and risk management;
- Commitment to company values and objectives in a customer-focused environment;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and ERP-based contract management systems (procure-to-pay processes).
A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Commerce, Engineering or a related field is preferred, as is experience with SAP’s Ariba Contract Management Solution (SAP experience advantageous but not essential).
Strong communication skills and the ability to engage professionally across all business levels are essential. You should demonstrate sound commercial judgement, risk awareness, and the ability to provide practical solutions in a dynamic environment.
You’ll be proactive, effective both independently and within a team. Proficiency in Chinese is not required but may be beneficial for stakeholder engagement.
Examples of Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Develop and provide commercial input for sourcing strategies;
- Prepare tender and contract documentation;
- Manage tender processes, evaluations and negotiations while maintaining probity;
- Prepare and present award recommendations and formal contract documents;
- Award and administer contracts in line with company policies;
- Manage contractor relationships and monitor performance;
- Resolve tendering and contracting issues or disputes early;
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and value creation;
- Collaborate with Senior Management, site Production/Maintenance, Legal, Finance and Contracts teams to deliver outcomes.
A covering letter addressing your suitability and experience with the formation and management of resource related contracts is required to progress for this role.
