We are seeking an experienced Senior Hydrogeologist to join our Technical Services team at Sino Iron, Cape Preston.

Reporting to the Superintendent Geotech and Hydrogeology, this is a hands-on technical role where you will take ownership of groundwater modelling and dewatering strategies that directly support safe and efficient mining operations.

You’ll be working across a fully integrated operation, where hydrogeology plays a critical role in mine planning, geotechnical performance, and long-term water management.

Key responsibilities

  • Own and optimise groundwater and pore pressure models to support mine planning and slope stability
  • Design and drive pit dewatering and depressurisation strategies across the operation
  • Provide critical inputs into geotechnical, mining, and closure planning decisions
  • Support approvals and licensing processes with accurate groundwater modelling and reporting
  • Manage groundwater and surface water monitoring programs and compliance requirements
  • Lead field investigations including dewatering, water supply, and water quality assessments
  • Mentor and guide junior hydrogeologists and field teams

About you

  • Degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Geological Engineering or related discipline
  • Strong experience in groundwater modelling within an open pit mining environment
  • Experience with modelling and data tools such as FEFLOW, MINEDW, HEC-RAS or similar
  • Ability to interpret complex data and translate it into practical mining outcomes
  • Experience supporting approvals, licensing, and environmental compliance
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills across technical teams
  • Current manual driver’s licence
